The Breach

The city of Artemis was built around the concept of four sealed
domed districts, each designed according to the weather models
available during the first colonial surveys. Those models were
considered reliable. For decades, they worked. The planet's storms
were believed to be large, seasonal, and predictable enough to
engineer against.

As terraforming efforts advanced, the planet's local conditions
began to change. The project was meant to make the atmosphere more
breathable by generating clean, uncontaminated oxygen through the
use of native flora. But as the process spread, the environment
around the city shifted in ways no model had predicted.

In the desert surrounding Artemis, a historic gale began to form.
Industrial District Two took the brunt of the impact.

The dome cracked. Buckled. Then gave way over several blocks of the
district. The collapse triggered mass hypoxia, structural failure,
and a full emergency evacuation. Surface routes quickly became
choked with debris, storm winds, and panicked crowds. Sirens drowned
out the public feeds. AEC drones vanished into dust clouds.
Constabulary orders contradicted each other by the minute.

You survived the first minutes of the breach by shrewd decision,
sheer luck, or simply by following another desperate crowd into the
Artemis service tunnels beneath District Two.

For a moment, it looked like the right choice.

Then the city's environmental isolation system activated.

The doors sealed.
